March 2025 Mintlayer Development Update

Hello Mintlayers,

March has been an exciting and productive month at Mintlayer, highlighted by significant developments, including the highly anticipated launch of our ZK Thunder Testnet, progress in our core node protocol, and continued enhancements to our Mojito Wallet Browser Extension.

Here’s an overview of this month's key achievements:

⛈️ ZK Thunder Network Testnet Launch

We're proud to announce the successful launch of the ZK Thunder Network Testnet, our groundbreaking Layer 3 solution developed in collaboration with Carpediem. This new layer introduces:

  • Ultra-fast 1-second block settlements, greatly surpassing Mintlayer’s current block speeds.

  • Full EVM compatibility, enabling complex Ethereum-based smart contract integration.

  • A dedicated ZK Thunder Block Explorer, allowing users real-time insights into transactions, blocks, and smart contracts.

  • The initiation of a Certik bug bounty campaign is now LIVE, encouraging community participation in identifying improvements prior to the ZK Thunder mainnet launch.

Users can easily connect ZK Thunder Network to MetaMask, explore the testnet, and participate actively in testing, paving the way toward the mainnet release.

🌱 Mintlayer Core Node Progress

  • Our core team initiated preparations for a major consensus upgrade, scheduled later this year. This update will significantly improve the node synchronization system, enabling faster block verification and downloads.

  • We’re also adding new commands for the decentralized exchange (DEX), particularly for primary market features, expanding trading capabilities directly within Mintlayer.

🍹 Mojito Wallet Browser Extension Enhancements

  • Ongoing bug fixes and general improvements were made, optimizing wallet performance.

  • Soon, we expect an update featuring custom outputs and new functionalities designed to enhance interactions with web applications. We’ll keep you posted on exact timelines as we approach release.

🏭 Token Factory (Simplified Tokenization Template)

  • Development continues steadily on our Token Factory, aimed at simplifying asset tokenization and minting on Mintlayer using IPFS for decentralized storage. We remain committed to launching this intuitive tool in the coming months.

In Conclusion:

March has significantly propelled Mintlayer forward, particularly with the landmark launch of ZK Thunder Testnet. We deeply value your continued engagement as we build a robust, secure, and user-friendly blockchain environment.

The Agent Payment Stack Is Real. The Accountability Layer Isn't.

In July the x402 Foundation launched with Visa, Mastercard, Stripe and AWS behind it, and roughly 160 million autonomous transactions had already cleared the protocol. The rails for machine payments now exist. The durable record of who authorized them does not.

IP Notary: Provenance for Any Digital Asset

Regulators are moving to require provenance by default, with the EU's Digital Product Passport rules landing in 2026 and 2027. A Bitcoin-anchored notary lets you prove a file's existence and integrity without trusting the party that created it.
